Dental implant placement
Creating support for a future crown or prosthesis where a tooth is missing. MegaGen and Straumann implant systems are available; selection follows assessment of the clinical situation.

About Service
An implant is placed in the jawbone, followed by assessment of healing and readiness for a restoration. This is not the same as receiving a complete replacement tooth: a crown or bridge is a separate restorative stage.
Planning considers bone volume, gum health, oral hygiene, smoking, medical conditions and medicines. The brand alone does not determine success; clinical suitability, planning and ongoing care all matter.
What the treatment or procedure involves
- Assessment and selection of a restorative plan.
- Tissue preparation when required.
- Implant placement and review of healing.
- Crown or prosthesis fabrication when the tissues are ready.
Important considerations
- Infection, damage to adjacent structures and failure to integrate with bone are possible.
- Later complications can involve inflammation of surrounding tissues and problems with restorative components.

Information helps prepare for a consultation and does not replace an individual diagnosis. The dentist determines the procedure, materials and timing after assessment.
Indications
- One or more missing teeth where implant-supported replacement is appropriate.
- A selected plan for an implant-supported crown or prosthesis.
Contraindications
- Implants are generally considered after jaw growth has finished.
- Insufficient bone, active gum disease or inadequate plaque control may require preparation.
- Smoking, poorly controlled diabetes and certain medicines change the risk assessment and require individual advice.
Advantages
- Support for restoring chewing function.
- In a single-tooth implant restoration, adjacent teeth are not used as bridge supports.
